Hohenstein, Joyce Shirley (18 September 1932 – 30 January 2021)
Joyce S. Hohenstein, 88, of Granton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her
family on Saturday, January 30, 2021.
Joyce Shirley Kuehn was born on Sept. 18, 1932 in the town of Grant to George
and Fern (West) Kuehn. Joyce graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1950 from
Neillsville High School. She was united in marriage to Darrel Hohenstein on
September 30, 1950. Together they farmed in the Town of Washburn, raised 6
children and enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Joyce worked at the sale barn every
Tuesday for several years, also as a teacher’s aide at Pineview Grade School and
enjoyed working at the Washburn townhall for elections. She was a member of the
Granton United Methodist Church and the Washburn Homemakers group.
Joyce and Darrel had the opportunity to visit Germany when their son, Gary was
stationed there in the Air Force. Joyce loved all of her family dearly and
enjoyed any time they would get together. She loved to sit under the tree with
Darrel and watch all of grandchildren playing. Joyce also loved camping and
Friday night fish fries.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Darrel, sons, Gene (Irene) of
Neillsville, Dale (Bonnie) of Chili, David (Carole) of Marshfield, Terry (Tammy)
of Gardnerville, Nevada, a daughter, Cheryl (Walter) Karl of Neillsville, a
daughter-in-law, Marsha Hohenstein of Claremore, OK, 14 Grandchildren and 28
Great Grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Regner of Marshfield and a brother, George
Kuehn Jr. of Universal City, TX.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary, a grandson, Ross, a
sister, Joan Kuehn, her mother and father-in-law, Harold and Ruby (Krejci)
Hohenstein, step-father-in-law, Rex Krejci, sisters-in-law, Amada Kuehn and
Gloria Havlicek and brothers-in-law, Arthur Regner and Arthur Hohenstein.
Due to Covid-19 a private family service will be held.
