Corp. Leroy Schultz of the Marine Corps, 3rd Division, was killed in action on
the island of Iwo Jima February 25, 1945, his 23rd birthday. He was a nephew of
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Elliot, to them the son they had never had. He resided with
them on their farm south of town for 10 years, graduating from Spencer high
School in 1940.
