Sorensen, Sigurd "Sig" (4 April 1897 - 25 February 1983)
OWEN -- Sigurd "Sig" Sorensen, 85, of Owen, died early today at his home.
Services will be Sunday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Peter
Thomsen will officiate. Inturnment will be at a later date in Riverside
Cemetery, Withee. The Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, handled arrangements.
He was born April 4, 1897, in Superior, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter (Marie
Nielsen) Sorensen. He and Esther Johnson were married August 2, 1929, in Withee.
They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979.
In 1900 he moved to a farm in the Frenchtown area and in 1929 to a farm in the
Town of Hixon. He moved to Withee in 1961 and held a position on the village
council.
He was a past member of the Withee Lions Club; he did volunteer work for 4 1/2
years for the school for the handicapped in Willard; was active in the Federal
Land Bank and the Tri-State Breeders Association. He was a member of the
Nazareth Lutheran Church and a veteran of World War I.
Surviving is his wife; one son, Sid of Ctystal Lake, Illinois; one daughter,
Mrs. Lloyd (Shirley) Nygren of Renton, Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Herluf
(Ellen) Nielsen of Stillwater, Minnesota and Mrs. Niels (Betty) Nielsen of
Minneaopolis; and four frandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two
sisters.
