Horn, Fern M., Professor Emeritus (Annual Scholarship - 1986)
The UW-Stevens Point Foundation has received a $20,000 bequest from the late
Professor Emeritus Fern M. Horn to endow an annual scholarship for a student
pursuing a master’s degree in home economics at UW-SP.
At current interest rates, Leonard Gibb, executive director of the foundation,
estimates the scholarship will be about $1,800.
The charter written by Miss Horn stipulates that winners be chosen on the basis
of high academic achievement and that they are in or planning careers as
teachers or extension home economics specializing in service to youth. Oher
considerations, she wrote, should be given to applicants who have participated
in professional organizations and to those who have demonstrated competence in
teaching or extension work and have supervised student teachers from UW-SP.
The final scholarship es expected to be awarded in 1987, Gibb said.
Mrs. Horn died of cancer January 23 at her home in Milwaukee at the age of 62.
She was a native of Clark County and a teacher for about 35 years. She has
served UW-SP’s School of Home Economics faculty from 1966 until she retired
because of ill health in 1980.
