--------- Voss, Mr./Mrs. Hans (55th - 16 JAN 1925)
The following article was taken from the New Holstein Record, giving an account
of the Golden Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Voss, parents of Mr. Gust Voss,
who resides two miles north of Highway 13 from this village (Colby, Wis.)
"Fifty-five years of married life is the unusual honor that fell to Mr. and Mrs.
Hans Voss on Jan. 16th.
A number of neighbors and friends and ladies of the Lutheran Aid Society with
their husband, gathered at the Voss home last Friday evening to pay their
respects to our highly respected citizens.
Beautiful bouquets of cut flowers were presented Mr. and Mrs. Voss by the
Lutheran Ladies Aid and the New Holstein Ladies Aid Society.
Rev. Halboth, pastor of the Lutheran Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Voss have
always been faithful members, gave a short talk and read several passages from
the Holy Scripture. Several appropriate hymns were sung.
Hans Voss and Anna Reinholdt were united in marriage in New Holstein on Jan. 16,
1870. They began life together on an 80 acre farm in the town of Rantoul. The
farm was heavily wooded, Mr. Voss being forced to use an axe and saw to clear
enough land for spring seeding. The first years of their married life were beset
with hardships and privations. … (the rest of my copy was cut off)"
