Neis, Francis J. (20 July 1920 – 25 February 2021) With Flag
Francis J. Neis, age 100, Marshfield, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021
at the Astor Retirement Community.
Francis was born on July 20, 1920 in Gilman, the son of Dr. Francis P. and
Felice (Bauer) Neis. He was a 1938 graduate of Thorp High School and a 1942
graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, where he obtained a degree in
philosophy. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during
World War II with the Fourth Division from March 23, 1942 until his honorable
discharge on November 27, 1945. Francis served in the South Pacific arena where
he participated in the battle of Iwo Jima, as well as others. He married Jeroma
L. Weber on November 27, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wausau. She died on
February 4, 2007.
Francis was employed by the Thorp Finance Corporation and by Weber Realty.
Francis and Jerry enjoyed traveling and they visited many parts of the world.
He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church, The Holy Name Society, an honorary
life member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799, the Fourth
Degree Knights of Columbus, the Marshfield Elks Lodge 665, and the 4th Marine
Division Association.
He is survived by his children, Catherine (Lloyd) Hoffman of Eau Claire,
Patricia (Thomas) Burke of Freeport, IL and Francis M. (Peggy) Neis of Green
Bay. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael (Megan) Burke of
Phoenix, Arizona; Jeff Neis of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Scott Neis of
Cincinnati, Ohio; Brian (Jennifer) Burke of Freeport, Illinois; and Anne Hoffman
of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He is further survived by two great grandchildren:
Brady T. Burke and Piper F. Burke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeroma; and grandsons Patrick Francis
Burke and Andrew J. Hoffman; a brother, Philip Neis; and, a sister, Margaret
Klink.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 6, 2021
at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am
until service time. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate, and members of the
Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly will form a guard of honor. Burial
will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be
conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield and his grandchildren
will serve as pallbearers.

The family extends a special thank you to Aster Retirement Community and
Heartland Hospice for all their dedication, kindness and personal attention
given to Francis In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Fran’s
name.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Francis Neis’ name for
the Columbus Catholic Schools.
