Mr. and Mrs. Roger Staffeil, route 1, Colby, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sharon, to Thomas Schmitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schmitz, Random Lake. The bride-elect, a 1966 graduate of Colby High School, attended Taylor County Teacher’s College at Medford and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She is teaching in the Random Lake School District. Her fiancé, a 1964 graduate of Random Lake High School, works for West Bend Company, West Bend. A fall wedding is planned.

Staffeil, Sharon Lea (22 Sep 1973)

Zion Lutheran Church at Colby was the setting of the September 22, 1073 marriage of Sharon Lea Staffeil and Thomas William Schmitz. Rev. Pankow officiated at the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Staffeil of Colby are the bride’s parents. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schmitz of Random Lake.

Attendants were Diane Staffeil, maid of honor, and Carol Staffeil, Colby, Mrs. James Staffeil, Phillips, and Rita McCowley, Random Lake, a friend, serving as bridesmaids. James Schmitz, Random Lake, served his brother as best man, with Robert Schmitz, Random Lake, James Staffeil of Phillips and Gary Schmitz, Oconomowoc, cousin of the groom, serving as groomsmen. Tony Wojt and Michael Scholler were ushers.

The bride wore a gown of ivory satin sheer and Venice lace trim, featuring a pointed Basque bodice with Venice lace, the neckline accented with a yoke of sheer lace, leg of mutton sleeves, and a floor length skirt with detachable cathedral train. A Camelot headpiece of pearl studded lace held her fingertip veil of illusion. She carried two silk apricot roses.

Her attendants wore apricot flowered print nylon sheer gowns with ivory lace trim. The empire bodices featured short puffed sleeves edged with ivory lace. Their floor length skirts with a wide flounce highlighted by ivory lace trim. Each carried a single yellow rose.

Debbie Pankow was the organist and sang “He”, “The Wedding Song” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

A reception was held at 5 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Hall, followed by a dance at 9 p.m.

After a two week honeymoon in Florida, the couple will reside at 625 Western Avenue, Random Lake. He is employed at West Bend Company, and she is a teacher in the Random Lake school district, where she taught the past five years. The groom is a Random High School graduate, and the bride graduate from Colby High School and attended Medford-Taylor Teachers College and the UW-Stevens Point.
