Cook, Leslie D. (20 August 1900 – 9 October 1987)
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Neillsville, for Leslie D. Cook, 87, who died Monday while visiting a daughter
in Georgia.
He was born Aug. 20, 1900, in Harvard, Ill., and came to Neillsville with his
parents at an early age. He received his education in the Townships of Pine
Valley and Hewett. He worked with his parents until 1918, when he went to South
Dakota. He married Ethel H. Parriott in Chamberlin, S.D. They moved to the Town
of Hewett in the Columbia area and operated a dairy farm until 1970. After his
wife’s death Aug. 23, 1980, he moved to Neillsville. He was a member of St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving ae three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Stephens of Smithville, Ga.,
Mrs. Wilbert (Dorothy) Henchen of Neillsville, and Mrs. William (Lillian)
Gallagher of Silver Springs, Md.; a son William of Granton; 14 grandchildren;
and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Margaret Cook; a
brother, Orin; two sisters, Helen and Ruth; and two half-sisters, Matti and
Alice.
The Rev. Richard F. Weber will officiate, and burial will be in the Neillsville
City Cemetery. Janice Mayer will be vocalist accompanied by Sharon Nemitz.
Pallbearers will be Wilson Bohnhoff, Arnold Karl, George Erickson, Edwin
Sternitzky, Harry Ambelang and Duane Anding.
Visitation will be at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, from 6–9 p.m.
Thursday, and until 11 a.m. Friday when the body will be taken to the church.
