Walker, Verna Irene (10 January 1933 – 3 March 2021)

On March 3, 2021 Verna Walker, passed away at the age of 88.

Verna was born in Humbird, January 10, 1933 to Edwin and Myrtle Johnson (Sherwin). On November 3, 1951 she married Conrad Walker. Together they raised their daughter Jackie on their dairy farm.

Verna will be remembered by her granddaughters for teaching them how to bake by baking with them for hours - giving them special memories and traditions to pass on to their children. For playing cards with them and reading stories to them when they were little. And for always comforting them when they fell off their pony, even if they wanted to get right back on.

Verna especially enjoyed her great grandchildren. She loved talking with them on the phone, listening to all of their stories and hearing about all the new things they were learning. She was great at playing pretend with all the toys they “showed” her over the phone and “racing” with them to get ready for bed. They will remember playing games with her and papa and the great dinners they had with her.

Verna was known for being an amazing cook. She worked for many years at Wildcat Inn in Neillsville, where many customers looked forward to one of her delicious steaks or Friday night fish fry. Later she cooked at Kaufman’s Kafé in Fairchild. She thought she had the best co-workers and customers and liked catching up with them in later years.

Verna is survived by her husband Conrad, her granddaughters Jamie (Ben) Christensen De Pere; Valerie (Gary) DeWitt Holmen; Jenna Gill Alma Center. Her Great-Grandchildren Jackie, Clark, Olivia. Also, Nieces and Nephews who have been very supportive and so helpful to both Verna and Conrad, which is greatly appreciated.

Verna is preceded in death by her parents, brother Eddie and daughter Jackie.

A celebration of life will be held at a date yet to be determined.

The Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, 128 Hoffman St., in Hixton is serving the Family, (715) 963-2311.
