LaGrander, Dannie G. (8 December 1932 – 10 March 2021)
Dannie G. LaGrander, 88, Marshfield, passed away peacefully with family by his
side on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Stoney River Memory Care, Marshfield.
Dannie was born on December 8, 1932 in Milwaukee, to George and Genevieve
(Strop) LaGrander. He was raised on a farm in Chili and was a 1950 graduate of
Marshfield Senior High School. He had a passion for boxing, dancing and
traveling and of course cheese making. He married Lorraine M. Schier on June 20,
1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield. She died on July 8, 2020.
As a very ambitious young man, Dannie delivered groceries and then he delivered
donuts. After their marriage Dannie and Lorraine were both licensed cheesemakers
and they managed various cheese factories including Nasonville Dairy, Edelweiss
Co-op and Maple Grove Cheese Factory. He also worked at Parkin’s Ice Cream
Company where he made cottage cheese. Dannie and Lorraine also owned and
operated Dixie Cream Donuts in Marshfield. In 1960 they purchased Hillside Dairy
in Stanley and operated it until retirement. After moving to Marshfield in 1973
they operated a cheese store at their residence until 1980.
Dannie was a life member of the Central Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, a
member of St. John’s Catholic Church, an honorary life member of the Knights of
Columbus John Eisen Council #1799, the Elks Lodge #665 of Marshfield and the
Squared Circle Boxing Association.
He is survived by his children, Randy (Sandy) LaGrander of Stanley, Sherry
(Mark) Morrow of Wisconsin Rapids and Cindy (Jim) Davis of Marshfield. He is
also survived by 10 grandchildren, Tara, Nitra, Ryan, Joey, Heather, Jody,
Jason, Holly, Tiffany and Travis and 19 great-grandchildren. Dad, grandpa, and
great grandpa will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, Ronnie and
Robert LaGrander.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 17, 2021
at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. James Weighner officiating.
Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, and grandsons will
serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on
Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday
at St. John’s Catholic Church. The service will be live streamed at
www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.
Memorials may be designated in his name to Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS)
Foundation for medical research.
