Schultz, Elaine Lorraine (2 February 1931 – 9 March 2021)
Elaine Lorraine (Haas) Schultz, age 90, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, March
9, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center.
Elaine was born on February 2, 1931 the daughter of William Sr. and Edna (Scheelk)
Haas. She attended rural school of Pleasant Valley in Stetsonville, Pleasant
Hill of Colby and Zion Lutheran School in Colby, where she finished 8th grade
before stopping her education to help on the family farm. Elaine was united in
marriage to Jerome (Gramps) Schultz on July 23, 1949 at St. Mary’s Parsonage in
Colby. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2011. Elaine worked as a waitress,
a housekeeper at Zion Lutheran Church and The Colonial House in Colby, a daycare
provided, a house/business cleaner, a mink farmer, and helped on the family
farm.
Elaine was most noted as an incredible cook and baker, especially her delicious
apple slices, apple kuchen and apple pies. She was sought after for her baking
skills during the holidays, special occasions, Zion Lutheran and St. Mary’s
Church events. She loved sharing her recipes with others.
Elaine was an avid gardener and love nurturing both her flowers and vegetables.
She was a dedicated community volunteer at the Colby Historical Society and Zion
Lutheran Sewing Circle. She was very active in homemakers groups and served as
the Clark County President at one time. She was a Ladies Auxiliary Member at the
VFW Post #2227 in Colby and a helper of the Hull-Holton farmers Union.
Upon her retirement, Elaine enjoyed reading a good book and appreciated the
Colby Community Library assisting her in the selections. She is most known for
cherishing her family, she loved her children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren and teaching them so many life lessons through books, games,
and by simply “being present” for them. She truly enjoyed passing her skills of
gardening, cooking, baking, canning, and storytelling to anyone who was
interested, and her legacy will continue on for many generations. She had a life
well lived.
