Chicago, September 13, 1929 – Hope was all but abandoned today for the missing
gravel Ship Andaste and it crew. Coast Guardsmen returning from a search for the
vessel, three days overdue in Chicago from Grand haven, Michigan, said neither
Lake Michigan nor the Michigan shore had given a single clue to the ship’s fate.
Among members of the crew were: H. Ramond, Joe Collins, Darwin Smith, H.
Schuitema, J. Bayles of Benton Harbor, Mich.; W. Lorenz of Grand Rapids; George
Watt, h. Whitaker, Theodore Torgeson of Owen, Wisconsin; Orville Johnson, G.
Gauld of Asheville, N.C.; G. Ratcliff, T. Codas, J. J. McCadde of Cleveland; E.
Bluechelt, John Anderson, M. Green, George Evans, F. Nienhouse and William
Joslin.
