Chippewa Falls - Soo Line passenger train No. 3, west bound for the Twin Cities
was wrecked near Owen, Wisconsin. The engine and five cars were derailed by
spreading rails, due to the soft roadbed.
Engineer C. McKay of North Fond du Lac was pinned under the engine when it
turned over on its side. His right leg was broken and crushed, and he was badly
scalded. Fireman P. O. Dragan escaped with minor injuries.
The train was traveling forty miles an hour. It was necessary to saw into the
engine and jack it up to free the engineer, who was taken to Marshfield
Hospital. His recovery is doubtful.
