GRANTON-- George Schmitz, who retired this year after 45 years of service as
supervisor and chairman for the Town of Lynn was honored at Tuesday's annual
town meeting.
Schmitz, who did not seek re-election as chairman, was presented with a plaque
in appreciation for his service to the citizens. He served in public office from
1938 to 1983.
The plaque included a gavel, and was inscribed with the names of the present
Lynn Town Board members.
The former town official did not seek re-election this spring, and Lawrence
Behling was elected new chairman. Schmitz, of Route 1, Granton, is a life-long
resident of the Town of Lynn and a retired farmer. His family has operated the
same farm since 1865.
