The first all paved Minnesota to Chicago highway became a reality last week when
the new pavement between Owen, Wisconsin and Abbotsford, Wisconsin was opened to
traffic. This was the last gap to be paved in the so-called northern route.
The pavement follows U.S. No. 12 from the Twin Cities to Eau Claire, then goes
via Chippewa Falls, Abbotsford, Marshfield, Fremont, Oshkosh and Milwaukee. The
distance from the Twin Cities is about 490 miles.
The new road is not merely a Sauk Centre to Chicago highway, but it provides an
all paved route from a number of point in central, southern and norther
Minnesota through Chicago, all the way to the Atlantic Coast.
