The Owen Volunteer Fire Department was called out at 2:40 p.m. on last Saturday
to the Virgil Konwinski farm, four and one-half miles north of Withee on County
Trunk “T”.
Their efforts were limited to saving nearby farm buildings and equipment, while
the barn was destroyed. Virgil said at the scene that the fire started at the
west end of the building and it was in this area, he said, where a barn fan was
located and it was running at the time of the fire. The fire is believed to have
started from the electric fan. All 20 milks cows and young stock were safely
removed from the barn.
