Mayer, Tony (1899 – 14 October 1976)
Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church, Fairview, for a Town of Mentor native. Tony Mayer, 77 of rural Humbird,
who died Thursday at Black River Memorial Hospital. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
The Rosary was recite Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Augusta,
where the body of Mr. Mayer was in state. A vigil Bible Study was conducted
afterward by the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Mayer was married to the former Georgia Gilles on June 12, 1928. They farmed
in the Town of Mentor. He had served on the Mentor town board since 1936 and was
board treasurer for 20 years. He also held various offices with the Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS).
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Norman and Anthony, both
of rural Humbird; four daughters, Mrs. William Genteman and Mrs. Bernard Kaiser,
both of Loyal, Mrs. Bernard Laufenberg of Alma Center and Mrs. Jeffrey Rayhorn
of Marshall, Mn.; two brothers, Theodore of Fairchild and Joseph of Humbird;
three sisters, Mrs. George Dimmitt, Mrs. Albert Zimmerman and Mrs. Percy Bemis,
all of Humbird; and 39 grandchildren.
