Freedlund, Sarah Lucretia (21 March 1961 – 22 March 2021)

Sarah Lucretia Freedlund, 60, of Pittsville, passed away peacefully at her home in the Town of Sherwood on Monday, March 22, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

Sarah was born in Neillsville, on March 21, 1961 to Harold and Nettie (Schafer) Freedlund. After graduating from Pittsville High School in 1979, Sarah worked for Woodward Governor Company over the course of 19 years at their plant locations in Rockford, IL, Stevens Point, WI, and Fort Collins, CO. Her positions held with the company were as an aircraft machinist, cruise missile electrical assembler, and lead inspector in hydro assembly and test.

She obtained her associates degree at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, Bachelor of Science degree for English education at UW-Stout, and a Master of Science degree in English Education through UW-River Falls. Sarah was a high school English/AP English teacher from 2006-2019 in the Pittsville School District. While teaching at Pittsville, she was also the PHS Forensics coach and PHS Drama Club director. After leaving her teaching position, she worked as a part-time librarian at the Pittsville Community Library.

Sarah served as a board member, director, and actor for the Pittsville Area Community Theater (PACT). She was an avid reader and gardener. Along with being politically active, she was a staunch supporter of NPR and PBS. Her greatest source of joy was babysitting for her two beautiful granddaughters.

Sarah is predeceased by her parents and survived by her two children, Reginald (Janet) Freedlund and Katherine Freedlund of Marshfield; two grandchildren, Raya Rau and Lilliana; and five siblings, Helena (Richard) Freedlund Clark of Hodgenville, KY, John (Gail) Freedlund of Nampa, ID, Esther (David) Becker of Wisconsin Rapids, Mary Totzke of Pittsville, and Ruth (Bill) Buettner of Pittsville.

A private ceremony will be held by her family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her name and to be announced at a later date.
