Smigaj, Roman "Red" (28 July 1898 - 15 April 1983)

THORP -- Roman "Red" Smigaj, 84, of Thorp, died Friday at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.

Services will be Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp. The Rev. John Perner will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Thorp Funeral Home.

He was born July 28, 1898 in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Mary) Smigaj. He married Frances Kolasinski July 22, 1930 in Thorp. She survives.

He was the owner and operator of the Red Arrow Garage in Thorp. He also manufactured baseball bats. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Gisvold of Stanley and Mrs. Ruth Ammenthorp of Centerville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
