Gilbertson, Chief Boatswains’ Mate William G. (Service Notes - 1976)
Chief Boatswains’ Mate William G. Gilbertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan
Gilbertson of Rt. 1 Merrillan, recently participated in a “People-To-People”
project in Japan.
His ship, the guided missile cruiser USS Gridley, sponsored a Japanese-American
Rock ‘N Blues concert during a port visit in Yokosuka. The four-hour concert
featured a combo from his ship and two Japanese bands from Tokyo. The Gridley is
currently operating as a unit of the U.S. Seventh Fleet on a six month
deployment in the western Pacific. His ship is home ported in San Diego.
He joined the Navy in October 1962.
