Pagenkopf, George (Barn Loss Refund - 1976)
A check for $18,796.42 was presented by AMPI, a milk marketing cooperative, to
George Pagenkopf, Rt. 3 Neillsville, in an informal ceremony Tuesday morning on
the Pagenkopf farm. Pagenkopf had his barn and milk house burn down in a
November 8 fire, also losing his milking herd of 135 cows. As a member of AMPI’s
milk market loss program that covers natural disasters, like the fire, the
dairyman received a check to cover at least partially some of his reported
$150,000loss. AMPI officials stated that the Pagenkopf loss was the largest
claim paid in the history of the cooperative.
