Calmes, Vera (b. 21 April 1893)

Mrs. George J. (Vera Johnson Meske) Calmes of 111 N. Fifth St., Abbotsford, celebrated her 90th birthday April 21.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson was born April 21, 1893 in Nashotah. On December 11, 1912 she and Fred Meske were married, living in the Town of Holton on a farm east of Abbotsford. In 1948 they moved to the City of Abbotsford.

On April 22, 1976 she and George J. Calmes of Abbotsford were married. He died September 2, 1980.

Mrs. Calmes is a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. Her son, Milton Meske, resides in Abbotsford and her daughter, Mrs. Joyce Meske Mizell, is deceased. She has six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The nonagenarian enjoys her plants and flowers and visits from friends and neighbors.
