Capes, Jesse E. (29 Aug 1884 – 19 Feb 1976)
Jesse E. Capes, Withee, died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday at the Continental Manor
Nursing Home in Abbotsford. He was 91 years of age.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Withee.
Officiating was Rev. Eugene S. Antrim, pastor. Burial followed in the Withee
Riverside Cemetery.
Born August 29, 1884 in Graymont, Ill., Mr. Capes came to Wisconsin in 1917,
settling in the Town of Holway, Taylor County. In 1918 he moved to the Town of
Longwood, where he farmed until coming to Withee in 1961.
Her served as treasurer for the Town of Longwood for 20 years, and on the school
board there for six years. He also was a member of the Withee United Methodist
Church.
Mr. Capes married the former Iva Harms on December 23, 1915, at Goodland,
Indiana. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert Sr., Marshfield; two daughters, Mrs.
Marjorie Niemi, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Robert (Lila) Lietzau, Milwaukee; 11
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers and four sisters.
The family has suggested that memorial be made to the heart fund.
Pallbearers were Hub Missling, Fritz Conrad, Bill Kostick, Joe Adams, Wendell
Steiner and Harris Johnson.
