Laber, John G. (16 January 1910 – 6 March 1977)

Funeral services were planned for Wednesday for the former operator of the Silver Dome Lanes, John G. Laber, 67, of Rt. 2 Neillsville, who died Sunday, March 6, at an Osseo area municipal hospital following a lingering illness. The Rev. Joseph Henseler was to officiate at the 10:30 a.m. services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and burial was to follow in the parish cemetery.

General and Knights of Columbus Rosaries were to be recited Tuesday evening at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, where the body of Mr. Laber was in state.

The son of John and Alice Ohri Laber, he was born January 16, 1910, at Sykeston, N.D., and was educated there, attending Catholic school. After completing his education, he farmed in North Dakota until 1954, then moved to Sebeka, Mn., and farmed for two years. From Sebeka, he moved to Wadena, Mn., where he operated a bowling alley before moving to International Falls to operate a bowling alley there, then came to Neillsville in 1961. Mr. Laber built the Silver Dome lanes which he operated until 1971. Afterward, he worked for the Neillsville Country club for five years.

On October 24, 1931, in New Rockford, N.D., he was married to the former Edna L. Wallgreen. Mr. Laber was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; five children, Mrs. Clair (Lou Ann) Olson and Jack Laber of St. Paul, Mn., Mrs. John (Kathy) Varaona of Cleveland, Oh., Terry Laber of White Bear Lake, Mn., and Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Rollins of Osseo; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Kerschner of Sacramento, Ca., Mrs. Theresa Schack of Sykeston, N.D., Mrs. Tom (Mary) White of Carrington, N.D., and Mrs. Earl (Alice) Bloodworth of Sacramento, Ca.; and by three brothers, Math Laber of Largo, Fl., Frank Laber, of Sykeston, N.D., and George Laber of New Rockford, N.D.
