Hughes, Amelia (9 October 1886 – 20 May 1977)
Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church
for Mrs. William (Amelia) Hughes of 209 West 12th St., Neillsville, who died
Friday, May 20, at the Age of 90. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated, and
burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rosary was recited Sunday
evening at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home where the body of Mrs. Hughes was in
state.
Amelia Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bailing, was born October 9,
1886, in Neenah and moved to the Globe area as a young child with her parents.
She received her education in local schools. During her life in Neillsville, she
worked in various places.
On June 18, 1907, at Globe she was married to Joseph Gall, who preceded her in
death in 1944. Her marriage to William Hughes took place November 9, 1946, at
Owen.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and of its P.C.C.W., and
of Golden Link Camp No. 78 of Royal Neighbors of America. She had been a
resident of Memorial Home for the past year because of failing health.
Survivor, in addition to her husband, include two children, Arthur V. Gall of
Waupaca and Mrs. Evelyn Gerhardt of Owen, one sister, Mrs. Lena Kuehmichel of
Marshfield, and six grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Max Feuerstein, Ray Burr, Francis Urlaub, William Seelow, Clair
Smale and William Dux.
Mrs. Glenn Short was the accompanist for St. Mary’s Choir.
