Rouse, Ernest (? - 11 May 1977)

From the Columbia News by Irma Sollberger

A former Columbian, Ernest Rouse of Spokane, Wa., passed away on May 11, in a convalescent home where he had been a resident for several years. Interment was in Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane.

Mr. Rouse was 85 years old.

Survivors are a son, Ernest, Jr. and a daughter, Velma Moss, both of Spokane, several grandchildren and one great grandchild. A sister, Dorothy, lives in Stevens Point and a number of nieces and nephews in the Neillsville area.

Ernest’s marriage to Olga Christopherson took place on December 28, 1921. She preceded him in death on September 11, 1976. The Rouses lived in Missoula, Mont. For many years before moving to Washington.

The Rouse place as it is still called here is located about one mile south of Columbia. I am told that the Rouses came to this area from Virginia. Ernest’s father was still residing in the old home her when I came to Columbia. The Jake Leiser family lived on the place several years before moving away to Milwaukee. The acreage now belongs to Clark County. No buildings remain to mark the spot. Trees have been planted there.
