Dunlap, Ray (Bronze Medal - 1977)
Missing First Place by only one measurement, Raymond Dunlap, East Sixth Street,
Neillsville placed third at the
Vocational Industrial Clubs of American Skills Olympic contest, held in
Cincinnati, recently. Dunlap, a student in the wood technics program at
Mid-State Technical Institute, Marshfield, qualified for the national
competition when he took a first place in the state Olympics held in Fond du Lac
in April. According to Larry Van Handel, Dunlap’s instructor, the student missed
the measurement on a run of stairs constructed by each of the contestants. This
cost Dunlap four points off of a perfect score. First place went to a New Mexico
contestant and second was won by a wood smith from West Virginia. Dunlap took a
bronze medal for his efforts as did Mid-State and he also received a reversible
drill.
