Allen, Richard L. (24 Jan 1909 – 30 May 1976)

Richard L. Allen, former Owen businessman and teacher, died at 2:43 Sunday morning in the emergency room of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held today from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Phillips. The Rev. Lewis Cernak of Phillips will officiate, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born in Livingston on January 24, 1909, and married the former Elsie Prihoda in Wausau on oct
22, 1932, who survives him.

He was a resident of Owen for many years, coming here as a school teacher, and later heading the business education department. He and his wife then opened Allen’s Department Store, and he also served on the Owen Board of Education as its treasurer for several years. Upon their retirement they moved to their future home. Here, he too, was active in community affairs, having served on the Town of Elk School Board, and was clerk of the Town of Elk for two terms.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mrs. Knoll, he is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Nelsen, Denver, Colorado, Mrs. David (Charlene) Luzinski, South Milwaukee, and Mrs. Steve (Paulette) Dunster, Hayward; three sons, Richard, Rochester, Minnesota, Thomas, Eau Claire, and William, Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Verna Schultz, Livingston, and Mrs. Lenice Knutson, Rewey; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
