Veronica Mateer, left, an eighth grader at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Colby, competed at the 2021 AAU Gymnastics Championships in La Crosse over the weekend. Mateer competes for Rainbow Gymnastics, an AAU club based in Medford. She placed inside the top 50 percent in each of her events. Mateer scored 8.2 in the vault to tie for eighth, then placed third in the bars with a score of 8.4. She had her best result in the beams, scoring a 9.225 to earn second. Mateer scored 8.7 on floor to tie for fifth. In the all-around, Veronica placed second out of 15 gymnasts to help Rainbow Gymnastics score a 100.25 to earn fourth out of nine teams across all ages for level 6.
