Scherer, Charlotte (28 October 1882 – 6 July 1977)

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home for Mrs. Charlotte Scherer, 94, of Memorial Home, who died Wednesday, July 6. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated, and burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Scherer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Harlos, was born October 28, 1882, in Austria and was educated in schools there. She moved to Germany as a young girl. Her marriage to George Scherer took place August 5, 1905, in Austria.

The Scherers came to the United States in 1913, settling in Chicago, Il., where they lived for several years, then moving to the Neillsville area. Mr. Scherer preceded his wife in death in 1935.

Following her husband’s death, Mrs. Scherer lived with a son in Illinois until 1957, then came to make her home with her daughter in Neillsville. She had been a resident of Memorial Home for the past four years because of failing health.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Fred (Kate) Peche of Seffner, Fl., Mrs. Edward (Anna) Zank of Neillsville, Mrs. Emma Heike of Plantation, Fl., Henry Scherer of Chicago, Il., William Scherer, address unknown and George Scherer of Round Lake, Il.; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Zank, Richard Zank, Ronald Meihack, Scott Meihack, Walter Zank and Wm. Meier.

Marie Vornholt sang “Jesus Savior, Pilot Me” and “Be Still My Soul.” The accompanist was Beulah Zoutendam.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Mrs. Elizabeth Lange of River Grove, Il., Henry Scherer of Chicago, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zank of Fairchild and Francis Suckow of Greenwood.
