Olson, Reuben W. (3 May 1906 – 13 July 1977)
Reuben W. Olson, 71, of Black River Falls, died Wednesday, July 13, in a La
Crosse hospital. He was born May 3, 1906, in New Lyme, Monroe County, to Thomas
and Rachel (Dinger) Olson. On July 30, 1929, he married Irene Kimpton at Indian
Creek, Monroe County.
He worked at Auto-Lite in La Crosse from 1936-1948 and then farmed in the
Baraboo area. He owned and operated Olson’s Tavern in Melrose from 1951 until
1962, and Rube’s Bar in Humbird from 1962 to 1972. He retired in 1972 and moved
to Black River Falls.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Marian) Kenyon of Coon
Valley and Mrs. Richard (Genevieve) Haakenstad of Canton, Minn.; 17
grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Four brothers preceded him in death.
Services were held Saturday afternoon in the Page-Smith Funeral Home in Sparta
with the Rev. Delbert Permann officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery in
Monroe County.
