Tesmer, Mr. and Mrs. Herman (60th – 31 July 1977)

The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tesmer, Clay St., was celebrated Sunday, July 17, at the American Legion Hall in Neillsville where a family gathering, and dinner was held in their honor. They were presented with a large painting of the family tree from their sons and their families.

The former Helen Nagel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Nagel, was born May 22, 1896, in Sheboygan, and received her early education in a country school there. The family moved to Colby when she was 12.

Herman L. Tesmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tesmer was born September 17, 1891 at Colby and received his education there.

The two were married July 31, 1917, at Colby and lived there, until 1932. Mr. Tesmer founded the cement construction firm that over the years evolved into H.L. Tesmer & Son, Then Ray Tesmer Construction and finally Tesmer Construction Corporation of Neillsville. In 1932, Mr. and Mrs. Tesmer moved to the Christie area and lived on farms there until 1949, when they moved to Neillsville. He retired in 1957.

Parents of four sons, all present at the family gathering, the Tesmers also have fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and with the exception of two grandsons and their families, all were in attendance. Also present were relatives from Land O’Lakes, Colby and Loyal. The sons are Robert, Phillip, Eldred, Spencer, Ray and Milford.

The elder Tesmers are members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Tesmer has been an active member of the American Legion for many years, having served in France during World War I. Mrs. Tesmer especially enjoys baking, canning and preserving and is an avid reader. Mr. Tesmer enjoys his well-kept garden and yard. Card games with his friends are a special pleasure.
