Schafer, Lorinda (6 September 1907 – 14 July 1977)

Mrs. Lorinda Schafer, 69, Oshkosh, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.

Mrs. Schafer, the former Lorinda Smith, was born September 6, 1907, in Sheboygan and married Clarence Behringer, July 20, 1926. For a number of years, the couple farmed in the Owen area. Mr. Behringer died in 1943, the result of an accident. She was married to Albert Schafer in April 1950 in Neillsville. He died in 1970.

The Schafers had lived in Winneconne and operated home for retired people from 1956 to 1966. She then moved this facility to the present location in Oshkosh.

Survivors include three sons, George Behringer, Winneconne; Jacob Behringer, Oshkosh, and Donald Behringer, Garland, Tx.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Winifred Mall, Withee, Mrs. Emla Camps, Caspen, Mi., Mrs. Alise Smith, Eau Claire and Mrs. Anita Schultz, Manitowoc; a step-son Eugene Schafer, Eau Claire; a brother, Fred Smith, Owen; and nine grandchildren. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. George (Ada) Smith.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Baptist Temple in Oshkosh. The Rev. Timothy Barrett was to officiate. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery at Greenwood with graveside services at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday.

GREENWOOD - Mrs. Lorinda Schafer, 69, of 4700 Winneconne Road, Oshkosh, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh.

Mrs. Schafer, nee Smith, was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Sheboygan and married Clarence Behringer July 20, 1926. For a number of years, the couple farmed in the Owen area. Mr. Behringer died in 1943, the result of an accident.

She was married to Albert Schafer in April, 1950 at Neillsville. He died in 1970. The Schafer’s had lived in Winneconne and operated a home for retired people from 1956-1965. She then moved this facility to the present location on Route 4, Oshkosh.

Survivors include three sons, George Behringer of Winneconne, Jacob Behringer of Oshkosh and Donald Behringer of Garland, Texas; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Winifred Wall of Withee, Mrs. Eula Camps of Caspen, Mich., Mrs. Alice Smith, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Anita Schultz, Manitowoc; a stepson, Eugene Schafer, Eau Claire; a brother, Fred Smith, Owen; and nine grandchildren. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. George (Ada) Smith.

Friends may call at the Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, from 4 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, and at the church from noon until time of services. The Rev. Timothy Barrett will officiate, and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Greenwood, where graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
