Thoma, Arthur (19 February 1895 – 26 July 1977) With Flag

An area resident until 1936, Arthur Thoma of the VA Home at King and formerly of Berlin, died Tuesday, July 26, at King. Graveside served were held at Globe with the Rev. David Meyer, officiating. The Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born February 19, 1895, in the Town of Weston to W.V. and Bertha Scheel Thoma. Arthur was educated in Weston schools and later farmed in the Town of Seif until 1936. He was married to the former Bertha Marquart on October 8, 1919, in the Town of Weston. She died in 1923.

Mr. Thoma moved from the Town of Seif to Portage and operated ice cream plants in that area. He was also in the real estate business until his retirement. For the past two years, he had been a resident of the Veteran’s Administration Home at King. Mr. Thoma was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Berlin, and of the Berlin American Legion post. He was a veteran of WWI.

Surviving are three sons, Harold Thoma of Neillsville, Donald Thoma of Red Granite and Asa Thoma of Berlin; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Lillian) Appleyard of Neillsville; one brother , Fred Thoma of Neillsville; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George and by one grandson.
