Noll, Joe (Order of the Arrow - 1977)
Joe Noll, 13, recently completed the ordeal induction into the Order of the
Arrow at Camp Rokilio Boy Scout camp located near Kiel. Joe is the grandson of
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Feuerstein and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Noll of Neillsville. He
resides at Two Rivers with his mother, Ms. Lorraine Noll and family.
To become eligible for the Order of the Arrow, a first class scout is elected by
fellow scouts who have recognized his camping ability and scouting spirit. After
election, the scout is considered a candidate until he has taken the Ordeal of
the Order. It is the purpose of the ordeal to have the candidate reflect on his
own scout life and character. This purpose is realized through a four-fold
ordeal which includes sleeping alone to prove self-reliance, a period of silence
to turn thoughts inward, a period of work to indicate willingness to serve
others, and a limited amount of food to demonstrate self-denial.
The Order of the Arrow is a young man’s program; Adults in the order serve in an
advisory capacity.
