Garbisch, John (FFA Winner - 1977)
John Garbisch, Granton, has been nominated and accepted to receive the American
Farmer Degree which is the highest honor presented by the National FFA
organization. Garbisch was nominated for the degree by the Wisconsin FFA
Association.
One of 798 FFA members nominated the American Farmer Degree, Garbisch will
receive the award in a special ceremony on Thursday, November 10. At the
convention, each American Farmer Degree recipient will be presented a gold key
and certificate by the National FFA organization.
The American Farmer degree is much sought after because it is presented to
approximately one member in 700 of the 509,735 member organization. It is
presented only by the National FFA organization to members who have demonstrated
exceptional agricultural and leadership achievements.
John is the son of Mrs. Helen Garbisch, Granton, and is currently farming in
partnership on the home farm. He earned his degree on the basis of his
supervised farming program and leadership qualities. He milks 36 registered
purebred Guernsey cows and maintains a butterfat average of nearly 500 pounds.
To qualify for the American Farmer degree, FFA members must have advanced
through a system of degrees. Degrees are given at the National Convention which
is the largest annual youth convention in the nation. Garbisch will attend the
convention with his mother and his vocational agricultural instructor, Francis
Steiner of Granton High School.
