Nikolai, Marie C. (19 February 1931 – 12 May 2021)

Marie C. Nikolai, age 90, of Colby, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the Colonial Center in Colby surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born on February 19, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Becker) Schuh in Marshfield. She grew up on the family farm. On May 26, 1948, Marie was united in marriage to Richard Nikolai at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby. She worked at Miller’s Bakery until 1996. Marie then worked at Hardees in Abbotsford and in Colby as a custodian at her faith community school enjoying the youngsters. Marie cared about her faith, church, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing card games, especially sheepshead. Marie loved flower gardening both inside and outside her home smelling the many blossoms or showing their colors to the world around her. She collected antique water pitchers and matching basins and coins. Marie cheered for the Packers and enjoyed reading the local newspaper. Most of all, she enjoyed her cats (Muffin, Sparkie, Goldie and Spitzer) along with the many birds and wildlife inhabiting her yard throughout the year.

Marie is survived by her husband of 73 years, Richard of Colby; three children: Richard A. (Linda) Nikolai of Appleton, Mark Nikolai and Todd (Junitta) Nikolai both of Loyal; 12 grandchildren: Scott Miller of Kent, WA, Renee (Jason) Nest of Plover, Pamela Nikolai of Marshfield, Tracy Nikolai of Menasha, Bryan (Jung-Sun) Nikolai of Rosharon, TX, Angela (Jason) Hodkiewicz of Sherwood, Alison Nikolai (Tyler Mueller) of Stratford, Emily Nikolai (Shayne Schoelzel), Gabrielle Nikolai, Zachary Nikolai, David Nikolai, and Louis Nikolai all of Loyal; nine great-grandchildren: Kaylan and Adaleah Nest of Plover, Zach Miller of Kent, WA, Jocelyn Miller of Arlington, WA, Jacquie and Jordan Hodkiewicz of Sherwood, Borris, Grant and Leo Nikolai of Rosharon, TX. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary E. (Steve) Miller; a brother, Raymond Schuh and a sister, Alice (Dale) Reis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at St. Mary Help of Christians Parish in Colby. Father Joseph Redfern will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until the time of services at the church on Monday.
