Howard, Lt. Col. James W. (Service Notes - 1977)
The son of a Neillsville couple recently assumed command of the St. Louis
Support Center, located at Granite City, Illinois.
Then administrator, lt. Col. James W. Howard, 42, is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Vern G. Howard.
Prior to accepting the new post, Lt. Col Howard was chief of the Logistic
Readiness Branch for the U.S. Army in Europe, based in Heidelberg, Germany. He
has also served two tours of duty in Vietnam, including time as advisor to a
district governor.
Lt. Col Howard received a BA degree from Ripon College in economics and was
commissioned a second lieutenant through that school’s ROTC program.
He was born in Granton and currently resides with his wife, Renate, and their
two children, Michael, 15, and Richard, 11, at the Granite City Army
installation.
The officer’s new duties include administration and logistical service for the
U.S. Army and other federal government elements in the St. Louis area.
