Galstad, Marilyn ( - 1977)
Karen Wicklund, a St. Olaf College senior from White Bear Lake, Minn., won the
first place in the college women’ division of the Minnesota state contest of the
National Association of Teachers of Singing. She was joined by a Neillsville St.
Olaf student.
A soprano, Wicklund is a member of the St. Olaf Band, playing French horn and
formerly has been a member of the St. Olaf Choir and several other mus8ic
organizations on the campus. As a result of her performance in the contest,
Wicklund was awarded a cash prize, the right to compete in a regional contest
and the opportunity to sing with the St. Paul Civic Orchestra next spring.
The other two St. Olaf students, Marilyn Galstad, Neillsville, and Robert Smith,
St. Charles, Il., also won honors in the contest. Galstad was second in the
college women’s competition and Smith won the right to compete in the regional
contest. Galstad, a student of Robert Scholz, is a senior and a member of the
St. Olaf Choir.
