Spaete, Alfred (19 December 1893 – 17 December 1977)
Alfred Spaete, 83, Rt. 2 Granton, died Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hospital
in Neillsville.
He was born December 19, 1893, in Germany, and came to the United States in
1923. He was married to the former Ida Radewahn in Wausau on June 24, 1923.
After their marriage, the Spaetes lived about five years in Neillsville. They
operated meat markets at Granton and Rice Lake, and later returned to Granton
and had a meat market until his retirement in 1959.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Lydia) Cramer,
Pittsville; and Mrs. Arlo (Elsie) Scholtz, Eau Claire; two sons, Alvin of
Granton and Paul of Madison; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
three sisters in Germany; and one brother, Paul of Sturgeon Bay. He was preceded
in death by three brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers were Victor Elmhorst, Jesse Richmond, Roger Helm, Edward Garbisch,
Melvin Garbisch and Roger Elmhorst. Mrs. Roger Helm was the organist.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton with the
Rev. Horst Augustin officiating. Burial was made in Windfall Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton.
