Asplin, Craig L. (30 October 1918 – 11 January 1978)
Craig L. Asplin, 59, Rt. 1 Prophetstown, Il., died January 11 at the Morrison
Community Hospital, Morrison, Il. He was born October 30, 1918, in the Town of
Weston, to Clinton and Zella Asplin, and received his education in Clark County.
Asplin was married March 9, 1940, to Eva Hatton in Neillsville. He owned and
operated the East Pleasant Ridge Dairy of Neillsville for fifteen years. He
moved to Lena, Il., in 1959, then to Rock Island, Il., in 1966, and then to
Prophetstown, Il., in 1972. He passed away following a lingering illness.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Kathy) Beyer of
Prophetstown, his mother, Mrs. Zella Asplin, Greenwood; three sisters, Mrs.
Carol Scherer, Greenwood, Mrs. Dale (Bethel) Armitage, Neillsville, and Mrs. Ray
(Jet) Ampe, Marshfield; and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his
father and one brother.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m., with burial in the Neillsville
City Cemetery, with the Rev. William Noble pastor of the Neillsville and Granton
United Methodist Churches, officiating. The arrangements were made by the
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home.
Mrs. Corrine Armitage sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just As I Am,” accompanied
by Mrs. Iris Musil. The pallbearers included Donald Hatton, Kirk Asplin, Robert
Armitage, Thomas Armitage, Larry Ampe and Richard Scherer.
Those attending the services, from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Donald Hatton,
Mr./Mrs. Donald Hatton, Jr., Mrs. Donald Goettl and son, Tommy, and Dennis
Hatton and friend, Mr./Mrs. Thomas Armitage, of St. Paul Mn.; Mr./Mrs. Robert
Wake, Sun Prairie; Mrs. Henry Weisensel, Columbus; Mrs. Florence Asplin,
Georgetown, Mn.; Kirk Asplin, St. Charles, Mn.; Mrs. Frank Hatton, Radcliff,
Ky.; Robert Armitage, Chaska, Mn.; Br. Larry Ampe, Mt. Calvary; Mr./Mrs. Len
Bielsinski, Wautoma; Mr./Mrs. Doug Ampe and Mr. Chuck Ampe, of Marshfield;
Mr./Mrs. Dick Scherer and Mr./Mrs. Chet Turnquist, Greenwood; Mr./Mrs. Louis
Shaw, Black River Falls and Mr./Mrs. James Asplin, Marshfield.
