Grottke, Alma A. (27 March 1898 – 10 January 1978)
Funeral services were held Friday for Alma A. Grottke, 79, Neillsville, who died
January 10 at the Neillsville Memorial Home, after a lingering illness. She was
born March 27, 1898, and educated in the Neillsville area, she worked on her
parents farm before moving to Milwaukee at the age of 22 where she worked until
her retirement in 1962. She moved back to Neillsville in 1974.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Faune (Ida) Durni of Hatfield, and three
brothers, Herbert of Hatfield, Ben of Marshfield and Arnold of Platteville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anna Grottke; three brothers
and a sister.
With the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating, services were held at St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery. “The
Lord Is My Shepherd” and “Asleep in Jesus” were sung by Kathy Quast, accompanied
by Paul Tess. Pallbearers included Roger Grottke, Edwin Sternitzky, Albert
Marks, Thone Karnitz, Henry Thoma and Andy Johnson.
Friends and relatives from out of town were from Marshfield: Mr./Mrs. Ben
Grottke, Mr./Mrs. Andrew Johnson, Mrs. Brenda Schemitz and Tiffany, Barbara
Johnson, Mr./Mrs. Leonard Bolster; from Granton: Mr./Mrs. Harold Scharf,
Mr./Mrs. Henry Winkler, Mr./Mrs. Edwin Sternitzky, Mrs. Edna Janke, and Mrs.
Celon Winters; Mr./Mrs. LaRue Potts, Greenwood; Mrs. LaVern Metcalf of Chicago;
Carl Scheeler of Mazomanie; and Mrs. Dorothy Grottke, Sauk City.
