Rev. Loren Swanson, pastor of the First Congregational UCC Church, Owen, will
become the Religious Relations Officer of the 432nd Civil Affairs Company at
Green Bay, Wisconsin on November 12, 1976.
Chaplain (Maj.) Swanson is attending a three day school in Chicago on November 9
– 11 for Army Reserve Chaplains. There will be probably 300 other chaplains in
attendance there. Chaplain Swanson is also enrolled in the Command and General
Staff College of the Army and attends classes one weekend a month at Fort McCoy,
Wisconsin. Completion of Phase III is required for promotion to the rank of Lt.
Colonel.
With all these new responsibilities, Rev, Swanson, who moved to Owen July 14
from the U.S. Army Chaplain School in New York City, does not expect to miss a
Sunday preaching for his congregation, except during the summer vacation period.
The Civil Affairs unit assists the civilian population of an occupied area after
a war, to return to normal as soon as possible. The unit works with the mayor,
police, the health officials, the religious leaders and other key people in any
area they are assigned.
