Devine, James (2 Mar 1899 – 07 Nov 1976)
James Devine, 77, Route 1, Withee, died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Marshfield. He had been a patient there since October 8.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen.
Officiating was the Rev. Richard L. Fliss, pastor. Burial was made in Riverside
Cemetery near Withee.
Mr. Devine was born March 2, 1899 at Glenwood City, and married the former Ida
Vanderwegen on June 15, 1926, at Withee. They celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary this year. He lived at Ladysmith until the age of 9, when he came to
Owen. He graduated from Owen High School and Wausau Business College.
He farmed and was a barber in the Owen-Withee area for more than 50 years,
retiring in 1972.
Survivors include his wife; none son, Robert, Withee, Peter, Owen, Burt,
Menomonee Falls, Tom, Bloomer, Ted, Green Bay, David, Withee, Mike, Eleva, Pat,
Eau Claire, and Dan of Bruce; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Theresa) Pawlak,
Thorp, Mrs. Lyla (Janice) Johnson, Spencer, Mrs. Daniel (Marilyn) Brey,
Abbotsford, and Mrs. John (Kathleen) Parker, Schofield; a brother, Howard, Owen;
63 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
