Meier, William G. (12 November 1905 – 27 January 1978)

A long-time operator for the Adler Theatre Company and later the Neillsville Theatre, William G. Meier, was the victim of an apparent heart attack at his 1009 Emery Street home, January 27.

Funeral services for Meier were held Tuesday, January 31, from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev. William Noble, pastor of the Neillsville United Methodist Church, officiated at the afternoon services.

Born in Arcadia to George Meier and Louise (Johnson) Meier on November 12, 1905, Meier moved to Waupaca where he received his education. He moved to Neillsville in 1935 and was employed by the J.P. Adler as manager for Neillsville’s Adler Theatre. He became owner of the theatre in 1959 and also worked at the Neillsville A&P for a number of years. Meier retired in April in 1977.

Meier is survived by his wife, Dorothy )Lynch) Meier, who he married on August 7, 1937 in Neillsville. Joining her are two sons, Thomas of Madison and David of Reedsville; one daughter, Sally of Marshfield; two sisters, Mrs. Allen (Oleen) Cleaves and Mrs. Kenneth (Nolda) Rasmussen, both of Fremont; and one grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Meier was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Neillsville Kiwanis Club and the Allied Theatre Owners of Wisconsin.

Meier, William G. #2 (12 November 1905 – 27 January 1978)

Funeral services were held for William G. Meier, 72, on January 31 from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville.

Mr. Meier passed away on January 27. He was a long-time theatre owner and operator in Neillsville.

With the Rev. William Noble, pastor of the Neillsville United Methodist Church, officiating, burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Iris Musil. The pallbearers were Walter Oldham, Roger Ingold, Albert Smith, Owen Haigh, Joe Wavrunek and Ed Zank.

Those attending the services from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Tom Meier and daughter, Madison; Mr./Mrs. David Meier, Rudolph; Sally Meier, Marshfield; Mrs. Kenneth Rasmussen, Mr./Mrs. Jack Rasmussen, and Mrs. Anne Cleanes, Fremont; Mrs. Robert Brinkman and Peter Rasmussen, Appleton; Jane Rasmussen, Oshkosh; Mr./Mrs. Clifford Curran, Medford; Dan O’Connel, Freedom; Steve Imre, Pittsville; and Mae and Hazel Ott, of Chili.
