Nielsen, Myrtle A. (26 Sep 1914 – 15 Nov 1976)

Mrs. Myrtle Alice Nielsen, 62, 509 Fremont Street, Durand, Illinois, died at 3:45 on Monday, November 15, 1976 at the Americana Nursing Home, Rockford, Illinois, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on September 26, 1914 at Owen, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Charlotte (Westlake) Dearth. After leaving Wisconsin she lived in Durand, Illinois for 18 years.

Shew as married to Nels Nielsen, Withee, on October 12, 1951, and after moving to Durand, was Society Editor for the Associated Publishers in Durand, for 6 ½ years. She was a member of St. John’s Church in Pecatonica, Illinois, and belonged to other church organization in Rockford, Illinois, and the Ostomy Club.

Surviving is her husband, seven sons, and three daughters. The sons are Robert John Stark, Neillsville, Richard Allen Stark, Rockton, Ill., Vernon James Stark, Pecatonica, Ill., Leon Lester Nielsen, Manitowoc, Wis., Dennis Edward Nielsen, Rockford, Ill., Robert John Nielsen, Durand, Ill., Glen Lee Nielsen, Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The three daughters are Mrs. Lorna Mae Gorder, Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Margaret Ann Hamel, Mt. Morris, Ill., Mrs. Ann Marie Green, Denver, Colo., twenty grandchildren and five brothers.

The five brothers surviving from this area are Ray, Russell and Elmer Dearth, all of Owen, Frank and Harvey Dearth, both of Greenwood; two sisters Mrs. Alfred Olsen, Cut Back, Montana, Mrs. Marvin Tauchen, Dorchester.

Services were held at 1:30 Thursday, November 18 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pecatonica, Illinois, with Rev. Edward Licht officiating.

Burial was made at Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery at Pecatonica, Illinois, with arrangement by McCorkle Funeral Home of Durand, Illinois.

Memorial are being established for the American Cancer Society and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pectonica.
