Nickel, Mark William (19 December 1959 – 8 May 2021)
Mark William Nickel, 61 passed away in St. Regis, Montana on May 8, 2021 .
Mark was born on December 19, 1959, in Neillsville, to Bill and Sylvia Nickel.
He grew up helping on the family farm. He attended Granton Public School and was
a member of the high school track team and basketball team.
Mark married Sara on September 10,1983 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Granton.
Shortly after they moved to Colorado for 2 short years then returned to Chili
and have resided there since.
Mark started his masonry career at the age of 18 and went on to pursue his own
business to which he stayed committed to for many years. Mark then went on to
work for the operators union for 8 years. Mark then joined the millwright union
and remained there until his passing.
Mark was a long time member of the Chili-Fremont fire department. Mark was also
a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chili.
Mark enjoyed many outdoor activities such as tending to his garden, going
fishing, and working with wood. Mark enjoyed restoring his Suburban he brought
home from Texas, which he took great pride in. Mark also enjoyed doing masonry
resto ration with his son Daniel and teaching him the tricks of the trade as
well as their afternoons and evenings spent picking wild asparagus, Mark also
enjoyed working with his son Charlie on his race car and going to many different
tracks including the time the whole family got to go to Bristol Motor Speedway
to watch him race and going on vacations with his wife Sara. Mark most enjoyed
time spent with his grandsons, playing outside, giving them rides around the
house in his truck, cooking "grandpa's special Saturday morning eggs" and taking
naps in the recliner. Mark was anxiously waiting for the arrival of his new
granddaughter who is due to arrive in July.
Mark is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Sara Nickel; sons, Daniel (Bryanne)
and their son Jeffrey; Charlie Nickel and his son Easton; brothers Dale (La
Donna) Nickel, Dean (Susan) Nickel, Donny (Debbie) Hafner; sisters Debbie (John)
Moeller, Sue (Gale) Moede; sister-in-law Lisa Nickel; brother-in-law Steve
(Cheryl) Selk; sister-in-law Janet (Paul) Wolf; mother-in-law Sonja (Bryl) Dahl;
and many nieces and nephews.
Mark is preceded in death by, his parents Bill and Sylvia Nickel; brother Larry
Nickel; father-in-law Ronald Selk; brother-in-law Jeff Selk.
A celebration of life will be held on June 5, 2021, starting at 2:00 p.m. at
Marks home in Chili.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
