Mrs. Melanie Krebsbach of rural Colby, mother of 12, who was born in Stratford,
and with her parents moved to Edgar at 15, where she later married, and the
moving to Colby in 1955 took the Betty Crocker Search for the American Homemaker
of Tomorrow exam, and received an excellent score.
The exams she took “just for fun” is the same exam given to high school senior
girls. Mrs. Krebsback, herself a busy “current homemaker,” correctly answered
question regarding various information concerning Vista works, constitutional
amendments, nutrition, government spending, socialization and pollution. This is
a test of facts and attitudes involving the kinds of problems and situations
women will be likely to face as a homemaker.
Mrs. Krebsbach is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and is very active in
its activities, belonging to St. Thomas group, the Christian Home and School
Association, and the Colby Christian Mothers’ organization. At present she is
helping organized a “luck 13 club,” which will help raise money that will be
used to better equip the parochial school.
Also interested in school affairs, Mrs. Krebsback holds membership in three
different school associations, the Unity PTA for kindergarten, The Christian
Home and School Association for her children in grade school, and the Colby PTA
for her high school children, in which she held office.
Her hobbies include reading, snowmobiling with the family and playing a lot of
volleyball in the summer.
Married to Raymond Krebsbach, who is employed by AMPI, she often manages the
family herself while he is on the road, and also is interested in his work,
often attending the AMPI meetings with him.
Mrs. Krebsbach says the summer garden is the family project each year, with
every one of the family taking part, even the little ones. She freezes the
garden produce, and this is stored in a large freezer which the family empties
four or five times a year. Two beef cattle and four pigs are raised each year
for the family’s use.
The children are: Sandra, 24, who teaches at Pulaski; Pat, 20, married and
living at Ellsworth; Dan, 19, employed by DHIA Marathon County and living at
home; Drew, 18, a senior at Colby High School, Keith, 16, a sophomore; Roger,
14, an eighth grader at St. Mary’s; Mary, 12, a seventh grader; Sue, 10, fifty
grader; Kevin, 9, third grader; Dawn, 7, second grader, Reeee, four, and Jill,
two.
