Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Julia Schmidt, 79, of Colby, who died suddenly December 31, 1971 at her home, were held Tuesday at the First United Church of Christ, with Rev. Kenneth Dix officiating. Burial was in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Born in the Town of Herman, Sheboygan County, Wis., the former Martha Lemmin married Alvin Schmidt in 1918 in Colby. They farmed in the Town of Hull (Marathon Co.) for 40 years, and moved to Colby in 1954.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Whitney (Elva) Olson, Townsend, Mrs. Harry (Grace Gumieny, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Rueben (Delores) Streich of Milwaukee, and two sons, Harold Schmidt of Tripoli and George Schmidt, Colby. Seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and a brother, Henry Lemmin, also survives.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona, and a brother and sister.

The Lulloff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
