Fannie Wicker celebrated her 95th birthday on New Year’s Day at the Colonial
House of Colby. She was born January 1, 1877 in Del Rapids, South Dakota, and
when she was four weeks old her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hart, moved back to
Wisconsin’s Dane County. She then moved to Colby in 1903 and became Colby’s
first telephone operator.
Mrs. Wicker married George Wicker, June 14, 1905. They have on son, Gilbert, who
is also a resident of the Colonial House. George Wicker passed away in February
1959.
Mrs. Wicker is the oldest resident of the Colonial House, although there are
seven others in their 90’s. She is still very active, participating in most of
the programs there and has her favorite TV shows and likes to go out with one of
her nieces to church socials.
About 14 ladies from the Colby Methodist Church came to the Colonial House on
Mrs. Wicker’s birthday with a large decorated cake. Each resident was given a
piece of the cake to help celebrate her birthday.
